Georg Wilson

Georg Wilson's artistic practice delves into the intersection of ecology, history, and personal narrative, teasing obscured folkloric customs and knowledge into her works. Guided by the cyclical rhythms of nature's seasons, Wilson's paintings undergo a metamorphosis, with each brushstroke reflecting  the subtle shifts in light and color that mark the passage of time throughout the year, mirroring the ever-changing palette of nature in its most delicate nuances.

Wilson explores the intricate web of narratives woven within England's folklore and landscape, crafting enigmatic tales of  imagined landscapes devoid of human presence, with scenes populated by creatures that transcend categorization, existing beyond hierarchical structures of domination or exploitation. These beings inhabit a world of entangled narratives, inviting viewers to suspend disbelief and emerge transformed from the undergrowth. Creatures within her paintings are nestled within vegetal surroundings, bound by swirling brushstrokes that intertwine flesh with vegetation, forging connections within a broader ecosystem, observing the landscape's transition from decay to regrowth, preparing for a period of hibernation and regeneration. Wilson's canvases serve as portals into a porous terrain, where layers of experience, history, and custom converge in a mesmerizing tapestry of storytelling, inviting viewers to contemplate and embrace unseen aspects of the natural world.
