In his paintings, Christopher Hartmann (b. 1993, Germany) challenges traditional notions of masculinity by highlighting feelings of loneliness and lack of enthusiasm. His rigorous depictions show detached environments, rendered in colourful hues, where complex relationships shaped by loss, intimacy and emotional attachment/detachment take place.
Hartmann holds an MA in Communication Design from Central Saint Martins and completed his MFA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths University London in 2021. He is a recent grantee from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation (2020) and resident of The Fores Project London (2020). His work has been shown in London, Berlin and Tel Aviv. He is represented by Hannah Barry Gallery in London.
